SEBASTIAN Larsson’s agent has confirmed that Blackburn Rovers have re-ignited their interest in signing the Swedish midfielder.

Steve Kean failed in his attempts to sign the winger in January but, with his contract at Birmingham now expired, will try again this summer.

Rovers though face plenty of competition for the 25-year-old with clubs from the Premier League and abroad interested in Larsson, although he would prefer to stay in England.

The Lancashire Telegraph revealed last month Sunderland and Rovers would be battling for his signature, with Newcastle United also believed to be in the race for him.

Rovers close links with Kentaro, Larsson’s agency, will do Kean’s chance no harm although the player would also be tempted by a reunion with his former Birmingham boss Steve Bruce at Sunderland.

Agent Per Jonsson said: “He wants to stay in England. He loves it there. There are three or four clubs in England that are very interested.

“Blackburn is one of them, absolutely. That’s logical considering Kentaro, but Kentaro aside, the most important thing is that it feels right.”

“I have told Sebastian to focus on the national team now and we will sort things out with a new club after that.”
