Cusquena Beer 12 330ml pack and two free glasses for £8 @ Asda

Bargain, so I bought 2 packs, and got 4 free glasses. Very nice they are too.

First time for me, a beer from Peru.

‘Cusquena’ (pronounced CUS-KEN-YA) beer is Imported from the Cusco area of the Peruivian Andies. Cusquena comes attractively packaged,

it’s hard to miss. It’s made from natural ingredients which includes pure glacial water (18,000 feet in the Andies) and is made from Malt and Saaz hops, the latter is found in European largers (ie Czech version of Budweiser).

cusquena

It’s a 5% beer and comes in two types, the ‘pale’ and ‘premium’ Dark. Brewed since 1912 in Cusco which is about 40 Km’s from Machu Picchu (the world heritage site). I brought the pale beer (4x 33cl) although I thought that title doesn’t do it justice.

The first thing you notice about the beer is the colour, some have called it the colour of sunshine, it certainly has a Gold like glow to it. It does literally look as good as it tastes.

Oh, and George Clooney drinks it…

Cusquena has a taste as pure as its source. 90% of beer is water and Cusquena uses glacial melt water from 18,000 feet in the Andes. By pairing this crystal clear water with the finest ingredients, such as Nugget, Styrian, and Saaz hops, Cusquena combines the light and crisp beer taste profile preferred by the Latin palette with the depth and flavor of European pilsners. The result is a lager that is crisp, refreshing, and unexpectedly full of flavor.

The bright, golden hue of Cusquena is reminiscent of an Andean sunrise. The flavor and subtly complex, malted barley aroma of freshly baked bread balance harmoniously with a pleasantly delicate, herbal and spicy complexity that only can come from utilizing three different hops. The long-lasting effervescent cascade of tiny bubbles shares the excitement of the satisfying experience to come: a crisp, clean and very refreshing flavor, a desirably dry finish, and a delicate hop swallow.

An overall taste that some would call perfection. An Inca perfection worth savoring.

Almost 8,000 feet above sea level, atop the Andes Mountains in Peru, sits one of man’s greatest achievements.

It’s here that the Incas, known for their engineering and artisanship, built what would become one of the New 7 Wonders of the World—Machu Picchu. A wonder that is crafted with stonework so precise that, to this day, not even a knife can fit between the stones.

That same dedication to detail survives today just to the southeast of Machu Picchu in Cusco, the most important city of the entire Inca empire. Cusco is home to the only beer brewed to that same ancient standard of Inca excellence—Cerveza Cusqueña.

Cusqueña uniquely combines the light and crisp taste of Latin beers with the depth and flavor of European pilsners. Such an intricate marriage only is achievable by a beer that is brewed with Inca craftsmanship, sourced from the purest glacier water 18,000 feet in the Andes Mountains, and remains true to its German brewing heritage by adhering to the German Purity Law of 1516 (the Reinheitsbegot).
