Finally, news about Guild wars 2!
I played in the Guild wars beta way back in 2005, but not really very much at all since 2007 and the release of Lord of the rings online.
Sandwiched between that was a brief foray with WOW ( World of warcraft).
All have their charms, but it was in Guild wars I met up again once more with Charles and Steven, who I first met when playing Kal online, then Diablo.
Anyway, back to Guild wars 2, who have a new site up, and a video teaser of the game.
I haven’t really kept up with the Guild wars news for a while, though I did buy all of the ezpansions, but the video looks promising.
All in all it could be a busy few months with Wolfenstein, GW2 and Diablo 3 on the horizon.

Last week ArenaNet released another piece of information about how things will be done in Guild Wars 2: The “Dynamic Event System”.
You should definitely read the article to catch up with the latest talk on the forums and to push your excitement level up a little bit during the waiting game. I, on the other hand, will share some thoughts with you about the event system that should not go unnoticed.
Guild Wars 1 relies heavily on instanced events and maps. The only places you are in a truly “open world” is in outposts, although those are limited by region and districts as well. Guild Wars 2 will have several servers, but the world itself will be open, so you can meet NPCs, other players and events on your travels.
The quests will not be given by NPCs with an “exclamation mark” over their heads, they will develop out of a situation you can witness or triggers you can find.
While this sounds like a great idea and the system will certainly push some boundaries of things that haven’t been done in a MMO before, the new system has some dangerous side effects:
You can not pick up quests and do them later. In Guild Wars 1, you stored quests in your quest log and perhaps zoned to a different outpost to shorten the travel, skipped it for a few days and per suited it later, grouped with a team of friends that had the same quest etc.
In Guild Wars 2, you are either there, when the event happens, or you will miss it, until the event cycle returns again to the spot where you can join the event. Although the cycle could be short (like 24hs), it could be several days or even weeks to start over (e.g. like Zquest for Missions or worse, until Kurzicks reach Kaanai Canyon).
This, together with the fact that they plan to have a web based chat/information system for in-game chat (or at least some way to connect to guild mates outside the game) puts on an enormous “psychological pressure” on players to “be there, or miss out”.
For me, the charm of Guild Wars 1 has always been the fact, that you could go away and return at any given time, without really having a disadvantage (financially, because there is no monthly fee and in-game, because everything is still there when you return), perhaps with the exception of missing event weekends with one time only stuff (like masks).
I’m not sure if a game like Guild Wars needs more stuff to make it more addictive than it already is. Even if it is a better game with the dynamic events, we should keep in mind it is still only a game and no substitute for “real life”.

where other people too added some concerns to the praise for the system.
