Blackburn boss Steve Kean has not given up hope that Junior Hoilett will sign a new contract at Ewood Park.

Hoilett’s current deal with Rovers runs out this summer and Kean admitted in January that the club would have to consider approaches for the Canadian winger, with Tottenham being linked with a move at the time.

No transfer materialised during that window, but several other outfits from around Europe have reportedly joined the race to sign Hoilett for next term.

He is a Blackburn player for now, though, setting up Steven Nzonzi to score one goal and seeing his shot go in off Nedum Onuoha for another in Saturday’s 3-2 home victory over QPR, and his manager still believes the 21-year-old could remain so beyond the end of the season.

“We would like to think that the way that he’s playing, he’s been playing with a spring in his step and he’s back to the form that he had before the transfer window opened, so we’ve not given up on that,” said Kean, quoted in the Lancashire Telegraph.

“There’s no reason why moving forward we can’t agree something and get pen put to paper on the appropriate time.

“I think what he’s got to do is just forget about everything, and just make sure he’s playing and performing the way he is.

“We’ve not given up and if it gets to the end of the season and we are where we think we’re going to be, there’s no reason why Junior can’t agree a contract with us.”

Blackburn’s win against the R’s, coupled with Wolves’ 5-1 defeat to West Brom on Sunday, saw Rovers move out of the Barclays Premier League relegation zone on goal difference.

  1. Neuschwanstein says:

Junior Hoilett insists the uncertainty about his future is not going to affect his efforts to save Blackburn from the drop.

The young winger is out of contract in the summer and he has yet to agree terms on a new deal.

That has seen Spurs and Newcastle take an interest in landing the 21-year-old for next season.

While Hoilett has failed to shoot down the notion he may be about to quit Ewood Park, the Canadian is promising not to let the issue ruin his game.

And having scored both goals in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat of Wolves, he is being true to his word.

He said: “I just focus on my football. Whatever happens off the field, happens off the field.”

  2. Neuschwanstein says:

Arsene Wenger is eyeing Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett as he plans his rebuilding at Arsenal.

The Canadian winger has been watched by Bayern Munich, but it is understood he wants to stay in the Premier League.

Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle are also keeping tabs on the 21-year-old, who is a free agent at the end of the season.

Any move for Hoilett would be part of a summer clear-out following Arsenal’s Champions League drubbing by AC Milan.

And Andrey Arshavin is likely to be first out of the exit door.

He interests super-wealthy Russian outfit Anzhi, but his former club Zenit St Petersburg are also keen.

Arshavin’s departure would make space for another wide player, with Hoilett fitting the bill.

Arsenal are also willing to listen to offers for Abou Diaby and will want to turn loan deals for Nicklas Bendtner, Carlos Vela and Denilson into permanent transfers.
