Microsoft is slashing the price of its high-end Xbox 360 model by £100, in the latest battle between the games consoles makers.
Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 Elite to £199 from tomorrow, just days after Sony cut the rival PlayStation 3 by £50 to £249.
The price on the entry-level Xbox Arcade model will stay at £159 and Microsoft will phase out its mid-range Pro console, leaving it with two models.
In the United states, Microsoft (MSFT) will cut the price of its Xbox 360 Elite by $100 to $299, the same price as the Sony (SNE) PS3.
Microsoft and Sony are still chasing industry leader Nintendo and its remarkably successful Wii. Industry analysts report that the Xbox has sold 31.4 million units since its launch compared to 23.7 million for the PS3 and 52.6 million for the Wii.
