PAUL Ince has agreed a three-year deal to succeed Mark Hughes as Blackburn Rovers manager.

Former England captain Ince, 40, enjoyed a fine season in charge of MK Dons last season, leading them to the Coca-Cola League Two title and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and has been heavily linked with a move to Ewood Park in recent days.

Ince, who enjoyed an illustrious playing career with the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan, previously coached Macclesfield, who he saved from relegation from the Football League in 2006-07 but this will be his first management job in the top flight.

Notts County have confirmed Paul Ince as their new manager.

Ince has signed a three-and-a-half year deal and replaces Craig Short, who was sacked on Sunday after less than five months at the League One club.

Chairman Ray Trew told Notts’ website: “Paul has a wealth of experience as a player and a solid track record as a manager in the Football League.”

Ex-Macclesfield, MK Dons and Blackburn boss Ince, 43, becomes the sixth boss at Meadow Lane in just over a year.

Ian McParland, Hans Backe, Dave Kevan and Steve Cotterill have also had spells in charge since October 2009.

Ince has been out of work since resigning as MK Dons manager in May. But Trew had no doubt the former England international midfielder will prove a good appointment.

Trew added: “There were a number of high-calibre applications for the position and it was encouraging to see just how attractive a proposition managing Notts County remains to some very prestigious names in the world of football management.

“However, when we met Paul it quickly became clear that he was the ideal candidate, he’d done his homework, had some big ideas and was ready to get stuck in straightaway.”

Short only took over in the summer following Cotterill’s departure to Portsmouth but lost his job with the Magpies sitting 16th after 13 games in League One.

Paul Ince has been appointed as Notts County’s new manager until 2014.

The 43-year-old, who has been out of work since ending his second stint in charge of the MK Dons in May, has been recruited by the League One club as a replacement for Craig Short who left the club on Sunday.

County become Ince’s fourth club as a manager, with his career taking in Macclesfield, MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers, with him having previously guided the Dons to promotion from League Two and the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy title.

“Paul has a wealth of experience as a player and a solid track record as a manager in the Football League, making him the obvious choice for me,” said the County chairman Ray Trew.

“There were a number of high-calibre applications for the position and it was encouraging to see just how attractive a proposition managing Notts County remains to some very prestigious names in the world of football management.
